We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Underwriter specialising in Political Violence and Terrorism to join our underwriting team based in Singapore. This individual will play a critical role in driving profitable growth by assessing and underwriting complex risks in the Political Violence and Terrorism sector, managing broker relationships, and contributing to underwriting strategy development across the region.
The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of the global political climate and its impact on exposures, enabling them to provide strategic recommendations and pricing models tailored to diverse risk profiles. This position demands strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills, alongside a deep commitment to risk management and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Underwrite new and renewal business for Political Violence and Terrorism risks in accordance with underwriting guidelines, authority levels, and company strategy.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments, including review of client information, use of modelling tools, and interpretation of geopolitical data.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients, providing market-leading service and support.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of product offerings and pricing models.
- Ensure all underwriting activities are compliant with internal controls, governance frameworks, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor market trends and emerging threats, providing insights to internal stakeholders and adjusting underwriting strategy as necessary.
- Collaborate with actuaries, claims teams, and senior leadership to maintain portfolio profitability and manage risk exposure.
- Participate in internal and external meetings, including industry conferences and client/broker visits as needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Political Science, Risk Management, Business, or a related discipline. A Master’s degree or relevant professional certification (e.g. ACII) is preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience underwriting specialist Political Violence and Terrorism risks, ideally in the Asia-Pacific region.
- In-depth knowledge of political risk insurance products, including SRCC, war on land, terrorism, and sabotage coverage.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound underwriting decisions quickly and accurately.
- Demonstrated ability to manage large and complex accounts, including multi-national clients and facultative placements.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Understanding of reinsurance structures and exposure management techniques.
- Proven track record of delivering results in a commercial underwriting environment.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken); additional language skills considered advantageous.
