Underwriting

Underwriting specialists will assess and evaluate the potential risks that exist in a financial contract. When starting a career in underwriting, entry level professionals will work in Operations Support or as Underwriting Assistants, learning their craft through administrative activities. This may include documentation, contract reviews and data analysis activities. Long-term progression in Underwriting will see senior professionals working within a specialist area in insurance or have stepped into more managerial positions, managing a team of their own.

Claims

In an Insurance firm, business or consultancy, claims are a crucial element, by which a formal request is created to cover compensation following an incident. Professionals working in Claims can have different career routes, which is dependent on their education, and the class of business and avenue an individual progresses forward in. You do not necessarily need a high-level degree or qualification to start a career in Claims, as it is inclusive to those who do not. Entry-level roles will provide workplace training to develop necessary skills, such as a Claims Handler or Claims Adjuster.
